Volunteer positions
Front Desk Volunteers
Our most prized and consistent volunteer fleet. The ones who wear the many hats of greeter, cashier, partial docent and are the face of the Museum. It is these important individuals that cannot be duplicated; each bringing talents and abilities to help make a visitor’s experience memorable and our Museum one of the premier attractions of the Coastal Bend.
Event Volunteers
The Texas Maritime Museum hosts several events a year and rely on our volunteers to do everything from greeting and ushering guests at the door to bartending, crowd control, decorations and catering.
Docent Volunteers
Tour groups can be anywhere from 10-65 visitors. This volunteer position would be a great fit for someone who wishes to learn more about maritime history and our collections and would like to share that knowledge with others. Providing an individual to interact with gives Museum goers a more engaging and outstanding experience. Don’t worry if you don’t know much about maritime history, our team of museum professionals will give you the behind the scenes tour and introduce you to the lesser known side of Texas history.
Maintenance Volunteers
It is not an easy task to maintain the museum exhibits, buildings and grounds. Volunteers with experience to aid with painting, repairs and upkeep of the Museum and grounds are requested.
Rockport Festival of Wine & Food Volunteers
Memorial Day weekend the Texas Maritime Museum requires a minimum of 300 volunteers to successfully staff the needs for our Annual Festival, and largest fundraiser for the Museum. Volunteers pour wine, collect zip codes, hand out programs, direct visitors, aid with the food demonstrations and much more during their 2.5 hour shifts. Volunteer recruitment begins in March.
Become a Camp Counselor
Throughout the year, the Education Department at the Texas Maritime Museum is constantly searching for responsible young adults to assist our camps either as volunteers or paid counselors. A number of Campers graduate into our volunteer program and age into a paid counselor position. Potential applicants unfamiliar with our programs are welcome and encouraged to apply to any and all camps. Individuals must be at least 11 years old to volunteer and at least 16 years old to become a paid counselor. Head Counselors must be at least 18 years old.
