SHIP BUILDING

Preserving Texas' Maritime Legacy

Texas shipbuilding flourished during WWI and WWII, with key players in Orange, Beaumont, and Houston. Government contracts propelled the industry’s growth, including the International and National Shipbuilding Companies, Beaumont Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, and Heldenfels Shipbuilding Company. However, the 1919 hurricane marked a setback, and the shipbuilding boom faded by 1925. A revival occurred in WWII, with multiple shipyards producing vessels like Liberty Ships.
