Texas Navy Day 2024 Event at the Texas Maritime Museum
Texas Maritime Museum Celebrates Successful Texas Navy Day 2024
Dive into the history of the Texas Navy.
The Texas Maritime Museum recently hosted another memorable Texas Navy Day, featuring three distinguished speakers who brought the rich history of the Texas Navy to life. The event, now available in its entirety on our YouTube channel, showcased the depth and diversity of Texas’s naval heritage.
Executive Director Michael Ables kicked off the proceedings, followed by thoughtful introductions from Education Director Shelly Knostman and Board President Admiral Tom Rodino. The presentations transported attendees through different eras of Texas maritime history, each speaker bringing their unique expertise and passion to the podium.
Texas Navy Admiral Michael Bailey, dressed in period attire, launched the program with an engaging overview of the Texas Navy’s history. His presentation, beginning at the 5-minute mark of our video, captivated the audience with tales of courage and strategic importance during Texas’s early years.
Distinguished historian and Museum Advisory Board Member Pam Stranahan followed with an illuminating exploration of the steamship era and the Second Texas Navy. Her presentation, starting at minute 47, shed light on an important period in Texas maritime history that shaped the state’s commercial and military capabilities.
The final presentation by Chris Kneupper, also in full historical costume, took viewers on a fascinating journey through the Ports at the Mouth of the Brazos. His detailed account, beginning at 1:26:00 in the video, highlighted the crucial role these ports played in Texas’s development.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our presenters and attendees for making this year’s Texas Navy Day a resounding success. For those who couldn’t attend or wish to revisit the presentations, the complete video is now available on our YouTube channel.
